Without a doubt, one of the strongest trends of this Autumn-Winter are capes and ponchos. Yes, as every fashion comes back, this one in particular has not been an exception. A few years ago we saw how it was slowly re-emerging, and this has been the year in which it has reared its head with more force.
The most famous cape is the well-known (and very common, in my opinion) Burberry Prorsum. All the celebrities and models usually wear it personalized to complement their looks.
But Chanel also gave us its take on capes and ponchos at its Pre-Fall 2014 show. A very Wild West-style version, it must be said.
I'll be honest. This style is not my favorite. Even though one of the strongest trends these days is the cowboy style with fringes, boots and a hat, I wish we could give these pieces a twist and take them to another level. I think this style is very obvious and not very wearable when going to the office.
Perhaps more in the style of Miroslava Duma? She manages to pull it off with very chic looks.
This is when I ask myself, how should we wear these capes and ponchos? With a skirt, jeans or leggings we could create very interesting looks. Still, we must take into consideration several details:
If we wear skirts, we should try to keep the length a little lower than the poncho, otherwise it would look like we were naked.
Try to combine it with tighter clothes or clothes that show off your body. It would not look good to hide under several loose pieces as it would make you look much bigger than you are.
If we are going to carry a bag, we should try not to have to hang it on our shoulder. In other words, no shoulder bags or shoppers, as they would ruin the look we are going for.
Try a look with high boots or wide leg jeans. You will surely be surprised.
